About Belcaro
Belcaro takes its name from the estate of Lawrence C. Phipps, who represented Colorado in the U.S. Senate from 1919 to 1931. Phipps and his wife, Margaret, built the Georgian-style mansion between 1931 and 1933 and called it Belcaro, Italian for “dear one.” Phipps’s Belcaro Realty and Investment Company developed much of the surrounding neighborhood. The mansion, often called the Phipps Mansion, remains a private residence.
Today Belcaro is known for large ranch-style homes on generous lots and quiet, tree-lined streets. It sits just south of Cherry Creek, with the Polo Club area and Bonnie Brae as close neighbors and Glendale on the other side of Colorado Boulevard.
